G. Rees Lichliter

SALISBURY, Pa. - George Rees Lichliter, 98, of Salisbury, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at Beverly Healthcare, Meyersdale.

Born Nov. 29, 1905, in Salisbury, he was the son of the late John C. and Mary Jane (Rees) Lichliter. Preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret E. (Riley) Lichliter, 1989; one brother, John C. Lichliter Jr.; and two brothers-in-law, Victor Twigg and Milton Crowe.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce K. (Twigg) (Crowe) Lichliter; two sons, G. Riley (Helen) Lichliter, Salisbury, and John "Dutch" (Lois) Lichliter, Cave Creek, Ariz.; one daughter, Mary E. "Biz" (John) Blocher, Columbus, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Connie (Vernon) Miller, Maui, Hawaii; two sisters, Winifred Newman and Emily Hickson, both of Confluence; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Crowe, Cumberland, Md., and Trudy Whitacre, LaVale, Md.; one brother-in-law, Jeff Twigg, Finzel, Md.; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Twigg, Finzel; eight grandchildren; and 14 great- grandchildren.

Member and former choir director of St. John's United Church of Christ; graduate of Salisbury High School, attended University of Pittsburgh; justice of the peace 1948-54; burgess of Salisbury for eight years; last surviving charter member of Salisbury Lions Club; retired auditor for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and former co-owner of Lichliter's Store.

Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Highway, Salisbury, where services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jeff Twigg officiating. 
Interment will be in Salisbury Cemetery.
